A Flutter finance tracker with an AI assistant that reads your receipts
The problem
Manual expense entry is the reason nobody keeps an expense tracker. The data is already in your email, your photos and your bank's notifications; typing it in a second time is what kills the habit.
What I built
Flutter app with Firebase Auth for Google sign-in and one user-scoped Firestore snapshot document for backup and restore across devices. Transcription, receipt parsing and expense categorisation run through Gemini, DeepL and Speechmatics, with keys supplied at build time from a gitignored local file rather than asked for in-app. Snapshot model is deliberately v1-simple: one document per user, easy to reason about.
What I’d tell past me
Keeping the cloud model to a single document per user cost me nothing now and will cost me a migration later. Worth it to have the app working end to end first.
